Selecting Slip Resistance for Tiles
Using a large-format tile is great for barrier-free design and aging in place. Smaller tiles offer more grout lines and slip resistance, so if you're searching for a large tile, look for one with a good slip-resistance rating. A tile with an A or B rating is far safer than a tile with a C slip-resistance rating.
Use a slab or a tile that offers up a bullnose or a radius edge for your shower bench as it will be easier on the back of your legs. A slab tile is nicer to sit on than smaller tiles. An added feature would be to heat the seat with radiant heat. Placing radiant heat pad under the seat helps to keep older adults warm.

THE AGING SERVICES NETWORK
It is through the Older American's Act that funding is filtered to Older Adults. The funding network flows from:
Federal Administration on Aging
to the
State Department of Aging
to the
Area Agencies on Aging
to the
Local Service Providers (county and city)
Every State operates in the same manner. What differs are the services offered from State to State, County to County and City to City.
The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act , the Older Californians Act, and the Medi-Cal program.
The Department contracts with the network of Area Agencies on Aging, who directly manage a wide array of federal and state-funded services. CDA also contracts directly with agencies that operate the Multipurpose Senior Services Program through the Medi-Cal home and community-based waiver for the elderly, and certifies Adult Day Health Care centers for the Medi-Cal program.
Each county and different towns has different programs so it is important to check with your county or city to find out what services are offered.
